The
presentation consists of:
Ø The philosophy of our proposed design. The concept is to
create a direct contact between people and water. On the riverside there are
public spaces with restaurants, shops and open spaces for walking, stops and
recreation space. The spaces along the river are so designed to create a
promenade that connects the user with water. The residential area is located
along the main access to the area, to ensure comfort for the residents.
Ø Functional schemes. First of all in this part we
describe the initial phase of design, denoting which objects we are preserving
or demolishing. Then we continue with the zoning of the territory,
demonstrating division of public and residential space, as well as access
points to them. Third scheme represents the movement of the pedestrians and
transport within the site and immediate surroundings, as well as determines the
main intersection nodes where gathers the most of people within the site and
before entering the site. The last scheme displays the proposed design of the
territory describing the functions of the buildings, showing the preserved and
new buildings.
Ø Proposed design. We planned office buildings to the left side of the
bay, to make it useful for everyday life. Employees can make the area alive. We
designed one bicycle hostel from the building I, and a museum/ playing house
from the building II. The hostel can make contact between the bicycle road and
the existing warehouse. These functions can draw visitors, tourists. That way
the area can be used not just by workers and inhabitants, but always refreshed
mass. These types can give new impulse to the area, and inspire other public activities.
We wanted make contact between the new family houses and the existing Victorian
house. So we lengthened the main line of the front side of the Victorian house.
According to this line, the planned houses had been sprinkled on a bow. We put
3-4 houses together – to one block, not just to save energy but to clamp them. Between
these blocks residents can have green spaces for leisure.
Ø Used sustainable principles. The choices of
criteria for environmental sustainability are the consequence of the climate in
Nottingham. The most significant aspects are plentiful rainfall and high
humidity. So the use of ventilated facades is a useful tool to save energy. The
main benefits are thermal and acoustic insulation, protection of the wall by
direct action of atmospheric agents and the elimination of surface
condensation. Also a rainwater recovery system can reduce the daily consumption
of drinking water, and thanks to the absent of calcium deposits in pipes and
washing machine can save electricity.
You're doing a great job. So far you're the only group to have followed the task for today - slides and annotation.
